Alpine — a Light Sports Car on Renault Engineering, and That Simplifies Servicing
The A110 is built around the idea of low weight: an aluminium structure, a mid-engine layout, a 1.8 turbo engine, a robotised gearbox. Much of this is familiar Renault engineering: the engine is related to the Megane RS unit, and the gearbox and electronics are recognisable. That means diagnostics and repair of the A110 follow a clear logic, rather than working on a completely unique car.
For the owner this matters: a sports car does not have to be serviced only by rare specialists at sky-high prices, if the garage knows its mechanical basis.
Track and Spirited Use — What Wears Faster
An Alpine is bought to drive for pleasure, and often to take onto the track too. Such use loads the car differently from calm city driving and speeds up the wear of a number of components. What we watch first:
- the brakes — pads, discs and especially the brake fluid, which overheats and loses its properties under spirited driving;
- the tyres and wheel alignment — the behaviour of a light car depends directly on them;
- the engine oil and cooling — under high loads their condition is critical;
- the suspension and fixings — vibration and overload reveal the weak points.
Before an active season or after a track day, a preventive check of these components is worthwhile, to catch wear in time.
Alpine A290 — an Electric Hot Hatch Based on the Renault 5
Alpine is extending its range towards electric drive: the A290 is a hot electric hatch on the Renault 5 E-Tech platform. Technology with a traction battery, power electronics and a charging system, but in a sporting tune. The A110's body is made of aluminium for lightness, and working with it calls for care — it is not the same as ordinary steel.
