BYD — an EV and DM-i hybrid leader
BYD makes both fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The electric Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal use BYD's own Blade battery — a lithium iron phosphate design known for stability and safety. The DM-i plug-in hybrids combine a petrol engine with a traction battery and electric drive, oriented mainly around running on electric power with the combustion engine acting as an energy source.
For the owner, this is modern but newer-to-market technology. EV and hybrid specialism is the foundation of our workshop, so both electric BYDs and DM-i hybrids fall within our specialism. We handle the mechanical side (suspension, brakes, tyres, bodywork) in full, and for parts where the original is still hard to source, we offer approved equivalents.
The Blade battery and high-voltage side — what matters
The Blade battery is one of BYD's strengths, but like any traction battery it needs proper diagnostic assessment, not a guess. We check the high-voltage side, charging system, and power electronics properly. On BYD EVs, as with other EVs, the conventional brakes are used rarely because of regenerative braking and tend to seize up — they need periodic servicing; and tyres wear faster because of the car's mass and torque, so tyre fitting and wheel alignment both matter. We service the DM-i plug-in hybrid using hybrid logic: battery, power electronics, charging system, plus the petrol side.
