Cupra — a Sporting and Electric Marque on VAG Engineering
Cupra began as a hot version of SEAT, and today it is an independent marque with a sporting and electric character. Technically, however, it still rests on the VAG group: it shares engines, gearboxes and platforms with Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda and SEAT. For a garage this is a big plus — the repair logic is predictable and parts are available, despite the marque's sporting positioning.
We know this platform across several marques at once, so servicing a Cupra follows a clear logic for us and without a surcharge for the sporting character.
Electric Cupra — Born and Tavascan
The electric part of Cupra is our field. The Born is built on the MEB platform — the same one as the Volkswagen ID.3 — and the Tavascan is an electric SUV on a related architecture. This is technology with a traction battery, power electronics and a charging system. We diagnose and service this part specifically: the battery's condition, the charging system, the power electronics, the regenerative braking. Because the MEB platform is familiar to us from Volkswagen, servicing the Born and Tavascan is predictable for us.
Turbo Engine and Sporting Driving — What We Watch
The petrol Cupras (for example the Formentor and Leon VZ with the 2.0 TSI engine) like dynamic driving, but that speeds up the wear of a number of components. We watch the turbo and the intercooler, the quality and timely change of oil, the cooling system, and the brakes and brake fluid, which overheats under active braking. The DSG gearbox needs servicing to schedule — on the wet version that means an oil and filter change. With sporting use, prevention of these components is especially important.
Plug-In Hybrids — Formentor and Leon e-Hybrid
Cupra also has plug-in versions: the Formentor and Leon e-Hybrid combine a petrol engine with a traction battery charged from the mains. As a garage with hybrid expertise, we diagnose and service this part specifically — the battery, the charging system, the power electronics — and also advise on extending battery life through charging habits.
