Which Nissan Do You Have — and What That Means for Servicing
Before talking about repair, it matters which car it is exactly. Nissan has four fundamentally different groups, each serviced differently:
- Petrol and diesel (Qashqai, X-Trail, Juke, Micra, Note, diesels based on the 1.5 dCi) — conventional servicing plus attention to the transmission and the fuel system.
- e-POWER (Qashqai e-POWER, X-Trail e-POWER) — a hybrid that drives like an electric car; more on that below.
- Electric models (Leaf, Ariya, e-NV200) — high-voltage technology with no combustion engine.
- Commercial / vans (Interstar, Primastar, Townstar) — commercial vehicles, for which we have an 8-tonne lift.
The group determines both the set of components to watch and the diagnostic logic. So the first question when booking is which Nissan exactly, and what drivetrain it has.
Nissan e-POWER — a Hybrid That Drives Like an Electric Car
e-POWER is often confused with an ordinary hybrid, but it is built differently. Here the wheels are always driven by an electric motor, and the petrol engine is not connected to the wheels directly at all — it works only as a generator, charging a small battery. There is no need to plug such a car into a socket.
| Parameter | Classic hybrid (Toyota) | Nissan e-POWER |
|---|---|---|
| What drives the wheels | Engine and electric motor together | Electric motor only |
| Role of the petrol engine | Drive + generator | Generator only |
| Charging from the mains | No | No |
For servicing this means attention shifts to the power electronics, the inverter, the generator setup and the small traction battery. We run e-POWER diagnostics on exactly this logic, not on the template of a planetary hybrid.
Xtronic CVT — What We Watch For
Many petrol Nissans (Qashqai, X-Trail, Juke) have the Xtronic transmission. It is a reliable unit when used correctly, but it is sensitive to overheating and oil condition. The typical signals are jerking, loss of drive under acceleration and a raised temperature. In such cases it is not worth putting off diagnostics: a CVT oil change in good time costs many times less than a transmission repair. We check the condition and the change intervals during servicing.
Nissan Van Service and Repair — Interstar, Primastar, Townstar
We service commercial Nissans: Interstar, Primastar, Townstar, as well as the earlier NV400, NV300 and NV200. Many of them are technically related to Renault vans, and we know those platforms well. We have a lift with an 8-tonne capacity, so we can take both a loaded and a heavier vehicle — not every workshop can manage that. For vans we carry out servicing, brake and suspension repairs, diagnostics, bodywork and respraying. For companies and fleets we can agree on an ongoing service arrangement.
