SsangYong Has Become KGM — What That Means
The SsangYong marque has recently become KGM (KG Mobility). For the owner this is first of all a change of name and logo: the models, the engineering and the approach to servicing have stayed the same, and the service and parts for existing cars have not gone anywhere. We service both cars under the old SsangYong name and the new models under the KGM marque, so the renaming complicates nothing.
Ladder-Frame SUVs and Pickups — Rexton, Musso
The marque's strong point is its solid ladder-frame vehicles. The Rexton is a full-size SUV with a chassis frame and a low-range gearbox, the Musso a pickup based on it. Such vehicles are often used for work, towing and off-road driving, and that loads the frame, the axles, the suspension and the underbody more heavily than on an ordinary car.
For the Rexton and Musso we service the running gear, the diesel section and the brakes under load, and carry out diagnostics, suspension repair and bodywork. A lift with an 8-tonne capacity lets us safely take a loaded or heavy vehicle. After active off-road or working use, a preventive check of the running gear and the underbody is worthwhile.
City SUVs and Electric — Tivoli, Korando, Torres EVX
Besides the ladder-frame vehicles, the marque has the Tivoli and Korando city crossovers, as well as the modern Torres. The electric Torres EVX and the electric version of the Korando stand apart: this is technology with a traction battery, power electronics and a charging system. As a garage with hybrid and electric expertise, we confidently diagnose the high-voltage section and handle brakes, suspension and bodywork. The scope of work on the traction battery is determined after diagnostics. If you have a Torres EVX, that falls squarely within our field.
Diesel and What Matters
A significant part of the SsangYong and KGM range is diesel, and here the main servicing topic is the emissions system (DPF, EGR) and the fuel system. As with any diesel, problems arise more often on short city trips without a full warm-up, while towing additionally loads the transmission, the brakes and the cooling. We diagnose and service this part specifically.
